Thought I should probably post a quick update, although there's not a huge amount to report. Don't worry, I've not entirely given up on the list yet!!
Task one - climb Machu Picchu: I'm still working out the logistics of this one, but I'm hopeful it will take place in 2013. June seems to be a good time to go weather-wise, so hopefully I'll be able to make the trip then. There's some serious training to be done first, especially for the climbing section of the trail. The steps are apparently quite high and very steep. The highest point on the Inca Trail is 14,000 ft and is ominously called "Dead Woman's Pass" - not quite sure I like the sound of that!!
Task four - learn to speak Spanish: 5 weeks on and the Spanish lessons are still going well. We're covering all the basics at the moment, most of which I've done before, but it's always nice to have a refresher. For the first time when I've studied Spanish I've learnt a lot of the differences in the accents between peninsular Spain and Latin America, all worthwhile knowing for the trips to Bunol and Peru!
Task five - own a pair of expensive shoes: pretty much decided on Louboutin's, now I've just got to save up to get some!!
Task eleven - walk the Great Glen Way: hopefully this will be happening in May 2011. I've done my research and have chosen some nice places to stay. I'm just waiting to get some confirmed walking buddies, and also waiting to hear back about something else that might be happening that month before making an official booking!!
Task fourteen - give blood: less than a week to go until my appointment now, and I'm feeling more and more nervous by the day. Can't quite explain it but I get a weird feeling in my left arm every time I think about it. I even hate having my blood pressure taken, so this task will certainly not be enjoyable. It's all for a good cause though, and I'll be very happy to get the first thing crossed off my list :o)
Task sixteen - watch all of the Godfather movies: might try this one next week when I'm on holiday at my Mum's. She assures me that she has all the movies so hopefully another one that I can happily cross off soon!
Task nineteen - watch the 100 classic movies: still ongoing. I think that a lot of the movies on this list are on there for reasons other than their storylines.... I have enjoyed most of them so far, although I keep on falling asleep in the middle of them, ooops! There are some on the list that I'm really looking forward to watching again, like Up! That will be a definate purchase I think, it's makes me cry so much though!
Task twenty two - register with the Anthony Nolan trust: I'm still waiting on my official donor card to come through, beginning to panic a bit now that they're going to reject me or something cos I've not heard from them in weeks. I would be very upset if I couldn't join the register as it's something I've been meaning to do since I was 18. It costs £125 to process each application though, so maybe I'm being a little impatient! Might give them a call to see how long it normally takes....
Task twenty five - read the top 50 novels: I'm getting through Kerouac's "On the Road" slowly but surely. I'd quite like to finish it before going home next week as I know my Dad has the next book on the list which I could read whilst I'm home. The books at the moment aren't particularly long, but there are some mammoth reads coming up later on....War and Peace, Crime and Punishment and Don Quixote, what was I thinking?!
Task twenty seven - take part in an abseil: After a lot of researching I've finally found an abseil that I want to take part in - a night time abseil down the Wallace Monument near Stirling. I know it's meant to be happening in May next year, I'm just waiting on the date to be confirmed so that I can arrange the Great Glen Way to follow on from it. Fingers crossed I hear back soon or I might chicken out of it. It's being organised by the Anthony Nolan trust, so hopefully I could fundraise enough so that the cost of adding me to the register is covered.
Task twenty nine - take a scuba diving lesson: I can do this in Aberdeen for very little expense, so I'll hopefully get this one booked in for just after Christmas. Let me know if you want to come along!!
I'm really looking forward to crossing some things off the list in the next couple of weeks, then I'll feel that I've properly started my list and hopefully it will motivate me to get booking/training for the other tasks!
If you want to join me for any of the tasks just let me know - I'd love to have you come along and everyone is welcome! :o)
